Reducing Family Conflict using Therapeutic Caring/Parenting - Trauma Aware Care Training

(Four-day Practitioner training facilitated by Helen Fearn and Dr Ben Webb)

What is Therapeutic Caring/Parenting?

Through understanding young people’s development, their complex needs, and their early trauma we can then use a Therapeutic, Neurobiological, Trauma Aware approach to help them overcome Blocked Trust and challenging dysregulated behaviours.  As they learn to trust adults through attuned and emotionally regulated parenting, we will begin to see them recover and thrive.

Therapeutic Parenting is based on parents’ ability to care for themselves and remain regulated and connect with their children and be curious about what is behind behaviours.  They can then respond with a therapeutic, trauma aware approach whilst being mindful of our own wellbeing.  The same approach can support practitioners to impact families to positively overcome family conflict and challenges through increasing their awareness of trauma and brain development.

This four-day training comes highly recommended by practitioners working with families and aims to equip practitioners with the strategies to increase their own personal wellbeing so that they can support and stabilise families and reduce conflict.

Aims of the training:

  • Understand the impact of Developmental Trauma, Blocked Trust, associated conditions, and complex behaviours and increase Knowledge of neurobiological changes in the developing brain of young people.
  • Be able to use and model Therapeutic Parenting and PACE (click here for more info), including the Neurosequential Model (click here for more info ) when supporting families with complex trauma in order to reduce family conflict.
  • Use knowledge of adolescent brain development to understand the behaviour and nurture the emotional wellbeing of teenagers.
  • Understand the impact of trauma on parents, carers and ourselves including Secondary Trauma, Blocked Care and Compassion Fatigue.
  • Use practical diet and lifestyle strategies to support self-care, brain health and wellbeing.
