The Children's Integrated Services Annual Practice Conference on 7th February this year was a thought provoking event themed around relationships and trauma. It was attended by a diverse group of professionals who shared their knowledge and experiences with each other.
The conference aimed to help connect staff with like-minded professionals, exchange ideas, and gain valuable insights into best practices.
A variety of informative workshops were available for everyone to attend offering practical strategies and tools to enhance practice in working with children and families.
Keynote speech by 'Lads Like Us'
Mike - the founder of 'Lads Like Us' www.ladslikeus.co.uk gave an impassioned personal account of physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse - reflective of many of the children and young people that Nottingham City Early Help Partnership supports.
The partnership supports Lads Like Us quest to inform a million professionals that the majority of the behaviours displayed by children, young people and families are a direct result of some kind of trauma experienced throughout their lives. In their words ‘these people we refer to are lads like us, from similar estates we grew up on, that are repeatedly presenting at mental health units, substance misuse services, prison and probation’.
