Safer Sleep for babies on holiday

Planning ahead will help you create a safer sleep environment for your baby whenever you go away.

If you are staying in a caravan, lodge or hotel, check what equipment is provided before you travel. Cots, travel cots and Moses baskets are all good options. Your baby could also sleep in a carry cot.

Check the advice from the Lullaby Trust first.

Sleeping in a Caravan

Staying in a caravan this summer? Have a look at the advice from the Lullaby Trust on safer sleeping for babies.

Avoid adult caravan beds for babies as these are often not safe. Cots, travel cots and Moses baskets are all good options. Your baby could also sleep in a carry cot. The most important advice is to place babies on their backs on a firm, flat sleeping space with no soft items, bumpers or loose, bulky bedding.

Car seat safety in summer

When travelling over the summer, remember that whilst car seats are essential for your baby to be safe whilst driving, they are not designed to be a main sleeping space. Take regular breaks on long journeys. When you arrive at your destination, it’s recommended that you take your baby out of their seat and place them on a firm, flat surface to sleep.
