On 5th and 6th December, Angie Naaman from the Supporting Families Team trained ten Police Community Support Officers and three Police Constable Beat Managers from Nottingham City. Attendees were trained in the ‘Supporting Families’ methodology which included, how to engage with vulnerable individuals and their families, how to deescalate a situation, how to ask challenging questions, how to build trust and confidence and how to link with different agencies to get help.
One attendee described how they learnt, ‘new techniques for positive engagement with children and adults’ and another, ‘found the exercise of gaining information about what people are close to them and who they would go to for help was very useful’.
