Speech, Language and Communication Resources - June week 1
Simple and effective ways to encourage early communication and turn‑taking skills.
Copy, Repeat, Imitate!
One of the best ways to support your child’s communication is by copying what they do and say.
Copy any attempts your child makes to communicate. This could include body movements, sounds, gestures or words. If your child says “bababa”, repeat the sound back and wait.
- This approach shows your child that you are interested in what they are doing and saying.
- It also helps your child learn to take turns, which is an important early skill for conversations.
This is a simple and effective way to support early communication skills at home.
We hope you found this helpful and encourage you to keep trying it together.
